Only SEVEN Countries Breathe Safe Air

Scientists say that air pollution is a ‘global health catastrophe’.

Only seven countries in the world met safe air pollution levels in 2023, a new report by Swiss air quality technology company IQAir reveals.

The World Air Quality Report, released this week, draws on data from more than 30,000 monitoring stations in 134 countries, territories and regions.

Of these, 124 were found to breach safe levels of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter), according to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.   READ MORE...

Worst Polluted Cities

All but one of the 100 cities with the world’s worst air pollution last year were in Asia, according to a new report, with the climate crisis playing a pivotal role in bad air quality that is risking the health of billions of people worldwide.

The vast majority of these cities — 83 — were in India and all exceeded the World Health Organization’s air quality guidelines by more than 10 times, according to the report by IQAir, which tracks air quality worldwide.

The study looked specifically at fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, which is the tiniest pollutant but also the most dangerous. Only 9% of more than 7,800 cities analyzed globally recorded air quality that met WHO’s standard, which says average annual levels of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 micrograms per cubic meter.    READ MORE...

FBI Says COVID Leaked From Chinese Lab

FBI Director Christopher Wray (above) has said that the bureau believes Covid-19 most likely originated in a Chinese government-controlled lab.  "The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident," he told Fox News.

It is the first public confirmation of the FBI's classified judgement of how the pandemic virus emerged.  Many scientists point out there is no evidence that it leaked from a lab.  And other US government agencies have drawn differing conclusions to the FBI's.

Some of them have said - but with a low level of certainty - that the virus did not start in a lab but instead jumped from animals to humans.  The White House has said there is no consensus across the US government on the origins.  A joint China-World Health Organization (WHO) investigation in 2021 called the lab leak theory "extremely unlikely".

However, the WHO investigation was deeply criticised and its director-general has since called for a new inquiry, saying: "All hypotheses remain open and require further study."  Mr Wray's comments come a day after the US ambassador to China called for the country to "be more honest" about Covid's origins.

In his interview on Tuesday, Mr Wray said China "has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate" efforts to identify the source of the global pandemic.  He said details of the agency's investigation were classified but the FBI had a team of experts focusing on the dangers of biological threats.

In response, Beijing accused Washington of "political manipulation".  "The conclusions they have reached have no credibility to speak of," said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.  Some studies suggest the virus made the leap from animals to humans in Wuhan, China, possibly at the city's seafood and wildlife market.

The market is near a world-leading virus laboratory, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which conducted research into coronaviruses.  READ MORE...

Monkeypox is a Public Health Concern

(CNN) --  The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.

The decision was announced Saturday morning after WHO convened its second emergency committee on the issue on Thursday.

“I have decided that the global monkeypox outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Saturday morning.

Tedros said while the committee was unable to reach a consensus, he came to the decision after considering the five elements required on deciding whether an outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.

He added that while he was declaring monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern, “For the moment this is an outbreak that’s concentrated among men who have sex with men, especially those who have multiple partners, that means that this is an outbreak that can be stopped with the right strategies in the right right groups.”

WHO initially stopped short of declaring the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern after its first emergency committee meeting on June 23. At the time, Tedros said the emergency committee advised that at the moment, “the event does not constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern” but acknowledged the “evolving health threat” that WHO would be following extremely closely.  READ MORE...

Ever Wondered???

WHO ARE WE?

WHY ARE WE HERE?

WHERE DID WE COME FROM?

WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?

WHAT IS OUR FUTURE?

Many of us don't give a damn let alone a rat's ass about these questions as we go about living our lives in a state of relative oblivion, caring only about our families, our employment, our possessions, our faith, our vacations, and if we are going to get the COVID vaccines or not...  secondary issues might, and I use that term loosely, revolve around:  inflation, crime and violence, immigration, our children wearing facemasks in school, beinging taught CRT, and supply chain issues...

When I am not being philosophical and thinking about these questions my time is spent posting articles to my blog and opinion pieces (like this one) or writing a few pages on my next novel...  which makes 6, but I lost one, so this is 5.

Being retired and without a whole lot of hobbies, family, or friends, I have a lot of free time on my hands...  so, as anyone might do who is in their 70's, I spend a lot of time just thinking about all of it...  which brings me back to those questions above...

DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR DEATH TO GET THE ANSWERS?

Diverless Cars

Self-driving vehicles are steadily becoming a reality despite the many hurdles still to be overcome – and they could change our world in some unexpected ways.

It's a late night in the Metro area of Phoenix, Arizona. Under the artificial glare of street lamps, a car can be seen slowly approaching. Active sensors on the vehicle radiate a low hum. A green and blue 'W' glows from the windscreen, giving off just enough light to see inside – to a completely empty driver seat.

The wheel navigates the curb steadily, parking as an arrival notification pings on the phone of the person waiting for it. When they open the door to climb inside, a voice greets them over the vehicle's sound system. "Good evening, this car is all yours – with no one upfront," it says.

This is a Waymo One robotaxi, hailed just 10 minutes ago using an app. The open use of this service to the public, slowly expanding across the US, is one of the many developments signalling that driverless technology is truly becoming a part of our lives.

The promise of driverless technology has long been enticing. It has the potential to transform our experience of commuting and long journeys, take people out of high-risk working environments and streamline our industries. It's key to helping us build the cities of the future, where our reliance and relationship with cars are redefined – lowering carbon emissions and paving the way for more sustainable ways of living.

And it could make our travel safer. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. "We want safer roads and less fatalities. Automation ultimately could provide that," says Camilla Fowler, head of automated transport for the UK's Transport Research Laboratory (TRL).  READ MORE...

The GOP members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee released a 96 page document indicating that China and the WHO could have prevented the Global Pandemic if they had acted with transparency from the beginning...

ODD that this report was released by the GOP members of this House Committee when the House and this Committee are controlled by the Democrats...

Why are the DEMOCRATS not wanting to blame CHINA and the WHO (World Health Organization) for covering up the release of the Corona Virus Pandemic.

Seems irresponsible to me...
