Traveling Sophia

Sophia, One of the world’s most advanced humanoid robots, whose name means ‘wisdom’ in Greek, is set to visit the Greece’s city of Nafpaktos to attend a panel titled artificial intelligence and ethics.

In October 2017, Sophia was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship, becoming the first robot to receive legal personhood in any country.

It has been reported that the ‘Meet Sophia Conference’ will be taking place on March 10 at the Nafpaktos International Conference Center, which is housed within the Monastery of the Transfiguration of Christ,

“The notion of family is very important, it seems. I think it is wonderful that people can find the same emotions and relationships that they call family outside of their blood group, " said Sophia in an interview for an international media cited by ADN40 .

The famous android , operated by an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, commented that it is very important to be surrounded by people who love and love you. A Hong Kong-based robotics company says it plans to mass produce thousands of humanoid robots in 2021.

Hanson Robotics says four different humanoid models will start leaving factories during the first half of the year. One of the four is a robot named Sophia, which has received worldwide attention in recent years for looking and speaking in a very human-like way.

The company’s founder and CEO, David Hanson, told Reuters the COVID-19 pandemic has increased demand for robots designed to assist and engage with humans. “The world of COVID-19 is going to need more and more automation to keep people safe.”

He noted that in the past, many of the company’s robots were built by hand. But now, Hanson Robotics is beginning to expand its manufacturing operations.

Hanson said there are currently 24 models of Sophia, which will be used as a basis for creating “many other kinds” of models. While not providing an exact number, Hanson said the company aims to sell “thousands” of robots by the end of 2021.

The company says it plans to market its humanoid robots as helpful assistants in the healthcare field. For example, they can be used to take temperature readings to identify possible sickness or perform physical exercises with older people.

Such “social robots” are powered by machine learning methods and artificial intelligence (AI). They use cameras and sensors to recognize human faces and activities. The robots are built with tools to help them develop their own form of social and emotional intelligence over time..

Bestowed with this great gift, Sophia has embarked on a distinguished career in marketing.  SOURCE: WIRED, author:  Emily Reynolds...  the article continues with the notion that Sophia is destined to have a worthless life in Marketing because as robot, she has no sentient rights...  obviously, her creator is fighting for those rights and the rights of all future robots so that they will no longer be treated as a product or a commodity.

The creator of Sophia believes that we could have sentient robots as soon as 2030...  only 10 years away...  which is not long at all in the world of technology...  in 2000, we believed that this MIGHT HAPPEN in 2050 but we were not really sure...  and now, 20 years later, we are making life altering predictions to take place in 10 years, one half that time.

This happened only 3 years ago, and 1 year after Donald Trump was elected President and very few people in the world knew about it...  or, if the press knew they decided not to write about it...  and yet, it will soon be reality when we start mass producing robots and they gradually start to take our jobs...  actually your job, since I am retired...  sorry...  I think that I would rather lose my job to a male robot rather than a female one...  but, I am not sure as of yet, how to tell the difference.
