Owning a Corvette

I have a neighbor who had saved his money while working during high school so that he could buy a corvette when he graduated; however, he was drafted into the military, sent to Vietnam, and when he returned, his parents had spent his money on something else that was needed.

When my wife and I downsized two years ago we moved in beside this neighbor and he shared the story with me because at 74 years old, he had acquired the money to buy his corvette.  The VA had finally approved his 100% disability claim and reimbursed him back pay to when he had first file the claim.

That money had given him enough to buy a $130,000 corvette that had 500 HP and could easily drive at 200+ MPH.

I understand the dream of corvette, but I do not understand the need to spend that much money for a car, especially when one is in one's seventies and cannot appreciate the value of owning a vehicle like that as one might value in their twenties or thirties.

I love stumbling upon art that feels like a hidden gem—those incredible sculptures that stop you in your tracks and make you wonder, “How did I not know this existed?”

From massive figures seemingly rising from the earth to intricate works that play with gravity, these sculptures redefine what’s possible. Join me on a journey through 30 of the most amazing sculptures around the world, each with its own story and artistry that you probably didn’t know was out there.
1. The Statue of King Arthur, located in Tintagel, England, is a striking bronze sculpture by artist Rubin Eynon.

Erected in 2016, this statue stands on the cliffs of Tintagel Castle, a site steeped in Arthurian legend. The sculpture, named “Gallos” (meaning “power” in Cornish), depicts a cloaked and crowned King Arthur holding his sword, with his body appearing to merge with the landscape.

This artwork symbolizes the enduring power and mystery of the Arthurian legends that are deeply rooted in the area.    READ MORE...

Anselm Kiefer - Artist

Anselm Kiefer (born 8 March 1945) is a German painter and sculptor. He studied with Peter Dreher and Horst Antes at the end of the 1960s. His works incorporate materials such as straw, ash, clay, lead, and shellac. The poems of Paul Celan have played a role in developing Kiefer's themes of German history and the horrors of the Holocaust, as have the spiritual concepts of Kabbalah.

In his entire body of work, Kiefer argues with the past and addresses taboo and controversial issues from recent history. Themes from Nazi rule are particularly reflected in his work; for instance, the painting Margarete (oil and straw on canvas) was inspired by Celan's well-known poem "Todesfuge" ("Death Fugue").

Results Oriented

There are different levels of value for each employee at the different levels within each company.

These different levels might include:

  • entry level - labor (hourly)
  • post probationary
  • lead worker
  • supervisor
  • shift supervisor
  • entry level - management (salary)
  • lower management
  • middle management
  • upper management

What is interesting here is that the lower your level the more likelihood there is of you getting laid off for various reasons.

However, this is not necessarily true, if your company has been acquired by another company, then the higher you level the more likely there is that you will get laid off.

Under normal circumstances, your continued employment is contingent upon your value to the company.

Value can be measured:
  • by output
  • by revenue generated
  • by expenses reduced
  • by contribution to team
  • by level of results/goals achieved

For the most part, your experience and education are meaningless except to open the door for your original employment or your promotion.

Companies are and will always be RESULTS ORIENTED

New milestone for nuclear fusion

French researchers managed to keep plasma stable for 22 minutes, a 25% improvement over the previous record. Scientists are working to bump that up to several hours to make nuclear fusion power generators viable.

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) announced a major milestone in the advancements in plasma duration inside a nuclear reactor, by maintaining plasma for 1,337 seconds. This new record represents a 25% improvement over the previous record set by East in China just weeks earlier.

This equals 22 minutes of plasma maintained inside the fusion reactor before it dissipated or became unstable. This technology would use less fuel than a fission nuclear reactor, and produce less radioactive waste, making it key to future energy generation.     READ MORE...
