Quantum Phononic Processor

Quantum computing systems have the potential to outperform classical computers on some tasks, helping to solve complex real-world problems in shorter times. Research teams worldwide have thus been trying to realize this quantum advantage over traditional computers, by creating and testing different quantum systems.

Researchers at Tsinghua University recently developed a new programmable quantum phononic processor with trapped ions. This processor, introduced in a paper in Nature Physics, could be easier to scale up in size than other previously proposed photonic quantum processors, which could ultimately enable better performances on complex problems.

"Originally, we were interested in the proposal of Scott Aaronson and others about Boson sampling, which might show the quantum advantages of simple linear optics and photons," Kihwan Kim, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told Phys.org. "We were wondering if it is possible to realize it with the phonons in a trapped ion system."

The use of phonons (i.e., sound waves or elementary vibrations) to create quantum computing systems was theoretically explored for some time. In recent years, however, physicists created trapped-ion systems created the technology necessary to use phonons as a quantum information processing resource, rather than mere mediators for entangling qubits.

"It has been shown that phonons at a harmonic potential can coherently transfer to the other harmonic potential and these phonons can interfere with each other," Kihwan Kim explained. "When we learned that a modified boson sampling (Gaussian boson sampling) can also be applied to a chemical problem (i.e., vibrational sampling) we demonstrated the sampling of SO2 molecules and developed a method to create a highly entangled phononic state; yet this was limited to a single ion. In this work, we finally implemented the phononic network in a scalable way, overcoming the limits of single ions."

The system created by Kihwan Kim and his colleagues is a programmable bosonic network, a network consisting of a set of bosonic modes, connected to each other via controllable beam splitters. They realized this network using phonons, excitations of collective vibrational modes that are also bosons.  READ MORE...

Upside Down & Inside Out

We live in a crazy world where boys wanna be girls and girls wanna be boys...  where singles wanna be married and married wanna be divorced...  where UFOs really do exist and no doubts remain that we were not visited by aliens in our past.  There is more powerful technology in an iwatch than there was in the first flight into space...  where it seems that good and evil cannot defeat each other and where most religions have been debunked due to science and technology...  and yet, there are still people be swear they believe in miracles...

One issue has not changed and that is the trinity of GREED - POWER - CONTROL...

The black population was content until a white cop killed Rodney King with his boot on the boy's neck and now they are CRYING...

BLM - CRT - WOKE - REPARATIONS

And...  if the truth be known, it is simply their greed for money, hoping that the white man will give it to them so they will not have to go out and work for it...

With all their new money, they will still be black and they will still only represent 12% of the population... and there will still be the feeling that whites would rather work with Asians and Hispanics than with Blacks...

They will still be the MINORITY...

Now matter how hard I try and no matter how much money I earn or save, I will still be lower middle class...

Nothing is going to change that reality for me.

Our technologies have destroyed our environment and now we are trying to save our environment...  but that costs money...  So, what do we spend money on?

  1. Social Programs
  2. Infrastructure
  3. Healthcare
  4. Military/National Security
  5. Education
  6. Housing
  7. Space Programs
  8. Technology

Do, we pay off our debt first?

Do we borrow more money?

Do we print more money?

Do we end fossil fuels?

America's labor is the most expensive in the world when one adds in all the benefits we demand...

  • If we give pay increases, then prices go up...
  • If prices don't go up, then profits go down and shareholders don't get dividends...
  • Who is more important?
  • Employees or shareholders?

We want for everyone to buy EVs but we don't have the power grid to support all those EVs nor do we have the infrastructure of charging stations...
WHY???
All of that costs money...

Has anyone figured out how long it takes to charge an EV?
Do you want to go on vacation and half way there, spend several hours charging your car???  That is to so, providing that there is not a line at the charging station...

HAS TECHNOLOGY MADE OUR LIVES BETTER OR WORSE?   OR BOTH?

Nuclear Reactor on Moon

LONDON — The UK Space Agency said Friday it would back research by Rolls-Royce  looking at the use of nuclear power on the moon.

In a statement, the government agency said researchers from Rolls-Royce had been working on a Micro-Reactor program “to develop technology that will provide power needed for humans to live and work on the Moon.”

The UKSA will now provide £2.9 million (around $3.52 million) of funding for the project, which it said would “deliver an initial demonstration of a UK lunar modular nuclear reactor.”

The new money builds upon £249,000 provided by the UKSA to fund a study in 2022.

“All space missions depend on a power source, to support systems for communications, life-support and science experiments,” it said.

“Nuclear power has the potential to dramatically increase the duration of future Lunar missions and their scientific value.”

Rolls-Royce is set to work with a range of organizations on the project, including the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Nuclear AMRC, and the University of Oxford.

“Developing space nuclear power offers a unique chance to support innovative technologies and grow our nuclear, science and space engineering skills base,” Paul Bate, chief executive of the UK Space Agency, said.

Bate added that Rolls-Royce’s research “could lay the groundwork for powering continuous human presence on the Moon, while enhancing the wider UK space sector, creating jobs and generating further investment.”

According to the UKSA, Rolls-Royce — not to be confused with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, which is owned by BMW — is aiming “to have a reactor ready to send to the Moon by 2029.”

Dhara Patel, space expert at the National Space Centre in Leicester, England, told CNBC that humans returning to the moon would need “a reliable power source” so astronauts could “live and work on our lunar neighbour for long-term missions.”

“Solar power would seem an obvious choice but the Moon’s rotation results in a two-week day followed by a fortnight of darkness or night time — not ideal,” Patel went on to explain.

“With little air and no liquid water on the surface, other renewable sources of energy aren’t possible,” she said. “Nuclear power could enable a continuous source of power regardless of the physical environment and conditions on the lunar surface.”

Using nuclear power on the moon, Patel noted, could boost the lifetime of lunar missions.  READ MORE...

Ongoing Global Conflicts

___________

Today, we are witnessing several conflicts going on through the world and yet the only one we know about is the Russia/Ukraine war...

We only know about this war, because our media only chooses to report the news of this war, as the perceive it impacts us the most...  all the others are just not news worthy...

The news outlets report all the crime and violence going on in the big cities throughout the USA, and some report on the illegal immigration that is taking place along with all the illegal drugs that are pouring into our country...

However...

in East TN, we are immune to all of this shit that the rest of you have to put up with...  there is no big city within spitting distance of where we live, so we are not exposed to crime and violence nor are we exposed to illegal drugs.   And, as far as the illegal immigrants are concerned...   well, they just have not made their way up to East TN yet and if they do, we here in TN will simply ignore them...  until they mess with us and then....  since we are a right to carry state, I believe we will start seeing local residents wearing handguns on this hips...   it's nothing personal, it just our property and we aim to protect it...

It's weird, ain't it, how wearing a firearm, prevents violence...   We also have the CASTLE LAW, so step onto our property (castle) and we'll blow your ass away quicker than stink on shit.

Me personally...  I don't own a gun and never will...  Will I support the 2nd Amendment, I believe it was a temporary measure...  but since it is still around then it has to be honored like all of our laws...  except for the law of illegal immigration as that one seems to be ignored.

TN is a land-locked state so when the north ans south poles start melting, we may have beach front property...  won't that be a hoot.

Hydrogen Vehicles

Green energy is where the world is headed. Even though hydrogen isn’t as popular as EVs are, the energy source is booming with potential and seems far more practical than other zero-emission alternatives.

While hydrogen is popular in its fuel-cell guise, an internal combustion version is perhaps not as familiar. Although previous hydrogen engine attempts have made headlines, it’s JCB that's really pushing the engineering boundaries here.

JCB’s newly-developed hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine is a zero-emission alternative to electric cars and fuel cells. As a manufacturer of heavy-duty machinery, JCB is well aware of the issues with electrifying an excavator or a backhoe loader.

Mind you, the company has multiple working electric and fuel-cell machines in their lineup. So it’s not like they haven't tried them.

The British heavy equipment manufacturer reckons hydrogen engines can bridge the gap between utilizing existing combustion technology while keeping things simple, inexpensive, and emissions-free.

In this latest Harry’s Garage video, JCB explains how their hydrogen technology is almost production-ready and that it's the future of all such heavy machinery. Who knows, it might even, one day, trickle down to passenger cars.  READ MORE...

Illegal Immigration and Technology

Our current population here in the US of A is 300 million.  Illegal immigrants, captured and gotaways, total about 2 million which is a very small % of our overal population and fairly insignificant.

ABOUT 60% of our population work.

This is 180,000 people.

The 2023 World Economic Forum predicts that 90,000 people in USA will loose their jobs due to ROBOT REPLACEMENT.

These robots are replacing NON SKILLED JOBS.

Illegal Immigrants are NON SKILLED LABOR.

Only SKILLED LABOR will be used to BUILD ROBOTS.

Let's just forget a minute about what these 90,000 Americans are going to do when they lose their jobs...  let's think about what these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are going to do because they are theoretically coming to the USA for FRIGGING JOBS.

Some of these American Workers are married and will be using their spouse's health insurance...  but these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS will have no health insurance...  do you think they might DRAIN our medical supplies, clog our ER rooms, and generally screw up our healthcare system?

If they cannot work???  will they steal to feed themselves?

Will they live on the streets and become homeless?

Will they sell drugs?

NOW, let's look at our own people...  what the hell are we going to do with them???

Spend more money to take care of them, INCREASING INFLATION and causing supply shortages???

We cannot stop TECHNOLOGY and our society is bound and determined to push technology as far as it can be pushed...  and then try to push it further.

What will technology replace next?

Robots can perform surgeries...

Robots can replicate the skills of dentists...

Robots can build robots...

Robots can replace the military soldier and sailor...

Robots can drive military vehicles...

Robots can fly military jets...

Robots can cook and serve food...

Robots can manufacture anything as long as they are programmed...

Robots can teach classes...

Robots can be architects and draftsmen...

Robots can perform nursing duties...

A BETTER QUESTION IS WHAT CAN ROBOTS NOT DO???

Nothing Else To Do But BITCH

When one reaches my age of 75, one realizes that one has lived 3/4 of a century...  and, while that does not make me that special, it puts me into a club of elders.  At 80, that club dwindles and at 90, that club dwindles even more and at 100, that club is damn near non-existent.  But, at 75. there are many of us...

  • I don't smoke cigarettes
  • I don't drink alcohol
  • I don't use illegal drugs
  • I exercise and eat healthy
I retired at 67 and am damn thankful, I had the ability to get out of the business marketplace as it is full of assholes who don't give a damn about who they hurt or step on, in order to get ahead.  Looking back, it seems that Native Americans are the ones who in general, are living the best life, as all they have to do is worry about cashing their gambling money checks, fishing, planting crops, and harvesting.

Americans don't know now to live this simple life as we depend more and more on technology to define our society, way of life, and quality of life.

BUT TONIGHT...  I AM BITCHING...

The USA is divided like an 8 section pizza pie:
  1. Conservatives
  2. Liberals
  3. Blacks
  4. Whites
  5. Hispanics/Asians
  6. Religous
  7. Non Religious
  8. Wealthy/Poor
There are other sections obviously but that is simply another pizza pie.

My concerns relate to politics, law enforcement, and government agencies.

All my life, my Democratic Party taught me that government was ineffective and inefficient when it came to getting things done...  The problem was related to all the various levels of government referred to as a bureaucracy.

What I find amazing is that the new Democrats (Biden's democrats) also called Liberals, Progressives, and Socialists, who obviously know that government is ineffective and inefficient want to create a bigger government.

For me, that just does not make sense...  and yet, that is our current reality.

It also bothers me that these Biden Democrats hate Donald Trump so much that they would spend over 6 years and millions of tax-payer dollars to try and destroy this man, resulting in FAILURES or FAILED OUTCOMES every time...  are these Democrats not intelligent enough to see they have wasted time and money for 6 years?

The odds are this hatred will continue another 2 years, making 8 years...  then, if Trump wins in 2024, we will have another 4 years of hate, making a total of 12 years HATING ONE MAN.

What a waste of intelligence.

The average American spends 12 years in school before they graduate and go to work or continue their education.

Can you imagine that DEMOCRATS have HATED TRUMP for as long as a person goes to school?

Fusion's Future in USA

Fusion energy is often hailed as a limitless source of clean energy, but new research from Princeton University suggests that may only be true if the price is right.

In a study led by fusion expert Egemen Kolemen, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, and energy systems expert Jesse Jenkins, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, Princeton researchers modeled the cost targets that a fusion reactor might have to meet to gain traction in a future U.S. energy grid.

The findings, published in Joule on Mar. 16, illustrated that the engineering challenges of fusion energy are only part of the problem—the other part lies in economics.

"People will not pay an unlimited amount of money for fusion energy if they could spend that money to generate clean energy more cost-effectively," said Jacob Schwartz, a former postdoc with Kolemen and Jenkins who led the modeling for the study and currently works as a research physicist at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. "Above a certain cost, even if we can engineer them, not many developers will want to build them."

The model results demonstrated that the niche for fusion in the U.S. depends not only on the price of building a reactor but hinges greatly on the energy mix of the future grid and the cost of competing technologies like nuclear fission.

If the market for fusion is favorable, then even with capital costs as high as around $7,000 per kilowatt, fusion could still reach 100 GW capacity—about the current capacity of U.S. nuclear power plants, which supply about a fifth of today's electricity needs. But supposing alternative technologies like nuclear fission, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, or long-duration battery storage successfully take root, capital costs might have to be less than half that price for fusion to reach the same 100 GW capacity.

"Fusion developers need to keep an eye on the competition," Jenkins explained. "If successfully commercialized, fusion power plants are likely to look a lot like classic nuclear fission plants from the perspective of electricity markets and grids. Both resources are complex technologies with tight engineering margins for safety reasons, which translates to high upfront investment costs. If the variable costs of fusion power plants end up low, fusion plants will likely compete head-to-head with new fission power plants."  READ MORE...
