Capital Punishment - Death Penalty

Twenty-seven states have CAPITAL PUNISHMENT which is the DEATH PENALTY.

Do you believe in Capital Punishment?

No___

Yes___

Maybe___

In Some Cases___

Do we as human beings who have been given humanity by our CREATOR, have the right to take another person's life, if they took a life or multiple lives???

Most of us struggle with that question when the subject of Capital Punishment is raised.

However, death under certain circumstances is completely permissible as long as the governing body, says it is ok.

For instance...

Congress approved us entering WWI and WWII, which gave us permission to kill as many of the enemy as we needed to without consequences and without being held accountable for killing innocent women and children...

Of course, in WWII, this including us dropping two ATOMIC BOMBS on Japan and killing millions of innocent people.

NO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT ISSUED for those killings...  although some questioned if that was absolutely necessary to end the war.

Personally, I don't believe we have to right to kill anyone, although, none of my family has been killed by anyone, so I might feel differently if that were to happen.

Primordial Earth Was Missing Materials Critical For Life, Study Shows

Artist's impression of ancient Earth. (NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center/Francis Reddy)

The greatest challenge facing astrobiologists is that there is only one planet known to us that has life. Of all the bodies of the Solar System, only Earth has a dense atmosphere, liquid water on its surface, and the organic chemistry that supports life.

However, these conditions did not exist billions of years ago when Earth was still young. While the nebula from which the planets formed was rich in volatile elements, the high temperatures in the inner Solar System largely prevented them from condensing, leaving them mostly in a gaseous state.

As a result, these elements were not incorporated into the solid rocky materials from which the inner planets formed. Only celestial bodies that formed farther from the Sun retained the substances essential to life, which raises questions about how and when they were introduced to Earth.

When discovery feels like doom: the return of “mirror life” fears

Israel launched a ground offensive in Gaza City. Following weeks of heavy bombardment and calls for civilians to evacuate, Israel began its ground incursion in Gaza’s most populous city, arguing it was necessary to stop Hamas from planning more attacks. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were photographed fleeing southward, clogging roadways. The operation, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted will take “several months” and could leave the country isolated from allies, was condemned by the UK, Germany, and other European nations. Axios reported that the US supports the operation, but prefers that it end quickly. When asked about the news yesterday, President Trump did not offer a view. “I have to see,” he said. “I don’t know too much about it.”

Robert Redford died at 89. The Oscar-winning director of Ordinary People and star of countless iconic films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men died at his home in Utah “surrounded by those he loved,” his publicist said. Widely considered one of history’s greatest actors and among the most influential people in Hollywood, Redford leveraged his stardom in the late 1970s to create the Sundance Institute and accompanying film festival to support independent cinema. “The industry was pretty well controlled by the mainstream, which I was a part of,” he told the Associated Press in 2018. “But I saw other stories out there that weren’t having a chance to be told and I thought, ‘Well, maybe I can commit my energies to giving those people a chance.’” He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2016.

Details emerge on the US’ TikTok deal with China. A day after the White House announced it had the “framework” of a deal with China to divest its US TikTok business, the Wall Street Journal reported some of the specifics. Per the WSJ, the app’s US business would be controlled by a consortium including cloud giant Oracle and private investment firms Silver Lake and Andreessen Horowitz. Users in the US would reportedly have to move over to a new app, which TikTok is already testing. A new board would comprise mostly Americans, one of whom would be appointed by the government. With a deal in the works, President Trump extended the deadline for China’s ByteDance to divest the app’s US operations or be shut down for the fourth time, to Dec. 16.—AE

Office Hours: Where will Trump’s war on his opponents lead?
Three views

Friends,

Even before anyone knows what motivated Charlie Kirk’s killer, Trump and his lackeys are intensifying their attack on the “radical left,” by which they mean virtually all of their political opponents.

Trump says 95-year-old billionaire philanthropist George Soros “should be in jail” — baselessly accusing the Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor and founder of the nonprofit Open Society Foundation of funding protesters and demonstrations against the Trump administration.

Trump also asserts that the loosely aligned group of left-wing protesters known as “antifa” — a shortening of anti-fascist — should be designated a “terrorist organization.”

Truth

I remember being told or I heard it on one of these legal movies or series the following:

TRUTH IS ONLY THAT

WHICH CAN BE PROVEN

                           IN A COURT OF LAW

And, I would say that I wholeheartedly agree with that because I have seen the truth being disregarded by a supposedly jury of my peers.

I have also heard that the people who win the wars write the history books...  and I believe that as well...  because America's history has always been slanted to favor Caucasian Society.

However, the truth that I still cannot figure out is why Christian Churches in the USA have framed photos of Jesus being portrayed as Caucasian when that is clearly NOT THE TRUTH.

When I was living with my parents, truth was whatever they said it was.  When I was in the military, truth was whatever a superior said it was.  When I was in college, truth was whatever the professor said it was.  When I was in the workforce, truth was whatever my boss or supervisor said it was.  When I was married, truth was whatever my wives said it was.

It appears that the Arabs have a different truth than do the Jews.  Americans have a different truth than the Chinese or Russians.  Africans have a different truth than Europeans.

Mormons believe that having multiple wives is the only truthful way to live...  and while that truth has some obvious advantages, I would say it has some obvious disadvantages as well.

However, there are some truths that cannot be denied:

  • Each day has 24 hours
  • We have one sunrise/sunset each day
  • There is gravity on earth
  • Each hour has 60 minutes
  • Human beings are born and they die
  • We must have air to breathe, food, water, and sleep to live
  • Only women can get pregnant

Truth is one's perception of reality and we have made the assumption that the reality in which we live is in and of itself a truth.

Understanding the Hilbert Curve

3D Hilbert curve with 4 bits per axis traversing 4096 points (Image by author)

Space-filling curves (SFC) are fascinating mathematical constructs with many practical applications in data science and data engineering. While they may sound abstract, they’re often hiding in plain sight—behind terms like Z-ordering or Liquid Clustering (used, for example, in platforms like Databricks). If you’ve worked with large-scale data platforms, chances are you’ve already used SFCs without realizing it.

Despite its relevance in modern systems, information on this topic is often fragmented, making it difficult to bridge theory and practice. This article aims to bridge that gap, while focusing on the Hilbert curve.
